Ed Walsh has been a trial lawyer, advocating for justice, for more than 30 years. He has secured numerous multi-million dollar settlements and verdicts for his injured clients. His significant accomplishments include a $10,080,000.00 jury verdict after the completion of a six (6) week medical malpractice trial in Chicago and a $7,287,083.00 jury verdict, which is the highest jury award on record in Illinois for facial disfigurement.
Among his successful jury verdicts are three (3) multi-million dollar medical malpractice verdicts in which the amount of each verdict exceeded the $1,000,000.00 monetary amount of insurance available to protect the doctors who were sued. Two of these “excess verdicts” resulted in “bad faith” claims against the doctor’s insurance carriers.
Ed has secured the highest medical malpractice settlement, $5,735,000.00, in the history of the Circuit Court of Will County, Joliet, IL. This complex case involved the failure of an obstetrician and pediatrician to diagnose Group B strep infection in a newborn baby. As a result of the medical negligence of the doctors, the baby needlessly suffered profound brain injury resulting in cerebral palsy and other severe disabilities.
Ed has served as associate general counsel and general counsel for the DuPage County Bar Association under the terms of five (5) presidents. He is a past president of the DuPage Inns of Court and an elected member of the Board of Managers of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. By appointment of the Illinois Supreme Court, Ed served as a member of the original Supreme Court Committee on Professionalism and currently is a member, by Supreme Court appointment, of the Supreme Court Committee on Character and Fitness to Practice Law.
The Chicago Lawyer Magazine has recognized Ed Walsh as being the only lawyer in Illinois to secure for his needy clients three monetary settlements of one million dollars or more during a single year in court jurisdictions outside of Cook County, Chicago, Illinois.
In 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, Law & Politics and the publishers of Chicago Magazine have selected Ed Walsh as one of Illinois' Super Lawyers in the specialized practice areas of Plaintiff's Personal Injury and Medical Malpractice, representing seriously injured people and the loved ones of people who are negligently and wrongfully killed.
To assist him and the firm in providing the highest quality and most sophisticated legal expertise for their clients, Ed Walsh pioneered the implementation of network computerization in the firm in 1988. This technology and software includes case management support, computerized deposition and trial transcripts and digital trial evidence presentation graphics. Along with his experience and skill as a seasoned trial lawyer, this technology has been used to achieve record setting verdicts in the courtroom in addition to out of court settlements.
Ed Walsh represents plaintiff clients with special emphasis in representing clients with serious, catastrophic personal injuries and complex damages as a result of automobile and truck collisions, wrongful death, product liability and medical malpractice. He also proudly provides pro bono legal representation to children as a Child Advocate, by appointment of the Judiciary of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court, DuPage County, Wheaton, Illinois.
Ed and his wife of 40 years, Bobbi, have four adult sons and two grandsons. When he is not sharing and devoting his time with his family and clients, Ed actively enjoys environmental stewardship, reforestation and sustainable environmental improvements to his Upper Mississippi Valley Minnesota farm, horsemanship, wilderness backpacking, fly fishing and endurance training.
