The October 1999 Edition of the Chicago Lawyer publication is devoted to a survey of lawsuit settlements valued at $1 Million Dollars or more. The survey is divided between Cook County/Chicago settlements and "Downstate" settlements. The Downstate settlements are those which resulted from lawsuits being filed in all circuit courts in the State of Illinois, outside of Cook County/Chicago.
Author Kate Marquess interviewed Ed Walsh and reported:
"Edward J. Walsh of Walsh, Knippen, Knight & Diamond is the only attorney with three Downstate settlements in Chicago Lawyers 1999 Million-Dollar Settlement Survey. Walsh totaled $4.09 Million Dollars in settlements.

No other attorney or firm had more than two big settlements outside Cook County."
The publication went on to report and discuss the following settlements which Ed secured for recognition in the Million-Dollar Settlement Survey: Murray v. R.A. Bright Construction Co., Will County Circuit Court, $1.9 Million Dollars; Patricia Zych v. City Bank Corporation, DuPage County Circuit Court, $1.19 Million Dollars; and Lazzari v. Drs. Pickett and O'Leary and Midwest Internists, DuPage County Circuit Court, $1 Million Dollars.
The settlements in these cases represent record-setting settlements in the areas of automobile collisions, premises liability and medical malpractice cases. In addition to these cases, during 1998-99, Ed has secured total settlements for his clients exceeding $6 Million Dollars. Through the use of professionally organized mock trials, computer technology, litigation support software, and experienced lawyering skills, Ed Walsh and his firm were able to single themselves out as being the only attorney and law firm outside of Cook County/Chicago to secure three monetary settlements each in excess of $1 Million Dollars.
