Brain Injury

Representing People with Brain Injuries

Brain injuries are a silent epidemic in the U.S.; a leading cause of death and disability.

At Walsh, Knippen, Knight & Pollock, Chartered, in Wheaton, Illinois, our attorneys understand the complex legal and medical issues involved in brain injury claims. We have an outstanding record of success in securing compensation for clients who suffered brain injuries because of the negligence of others.

Head Injury Accidents Cause TBIs

The brain can be injured by a strong impact to the head. These closed head injuries are often caused by auto accidents, falls, sports, and violent attacks. Concussions and subdural hematomas (bleeding between the brain and the skull) are forms of TBIs.

Even a mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI) can cause permanent brain damage that results in memory loss, cognitive, and emotional and behavior changes.

Brain Injuries Caused By Lack of Oxygen

When the brain receives some, but not enough oxygen, the result is a hypoxic brain injury. Total lack of oxygen to the brain causes an anoxic brain injury. These injuries occur when blood flow to the brain is restricted or cut off, or when the victim cannot take in enough oxygen.

Medical malpractice can cause brain injuries in a vast number of ways. An undiagnosed blood clot could restrict blood flow to the brain. Birth injuries frequently involve brain injury. Defective medical products or devices can also be at fault. Medication errors like an insulin overdose or an anesthesia error can cause brain injuries.

A Life Ruined By Malpractice

Our law firm won $10 million for a family whose child slowly suffocated because of a defective ventilator. Over a period of nine months, parts of her brain wasted away, eroding her vision, speech, coordination and intelligence.
